I teach Spanish to K-4 through eighth grade at St. Paul and also to adults in the continuing education program at the Buck Mickel Center of Greenville Technical College. I love teaching Spanish to children because, according to the Center for Applied Linguistics: “When children have an early start to a long sequence of language instruction that continues through high school and college, they will be able to achieve levels of fluency that have not been possible in the past due to the late start of most language programs.”
My education includes a degree in Spanish from Furman University, foreign study at the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija in Madrid, España, travel to Nicaragua, study at the Centro Panamericano de Idiomas in Costa Rica, and the course Bringing New Languages to Young Learners through the Citadel. During my time at St. Paul I have also served as the president of the South Carolina chapter of the AATSP and as State Contest Coordinator for the National Spanish Exam, and have participated in writing the Spanish curriculum to enhance language study at other Diocesan schools. I am constantly striving to improve the quality of language education for St. Paul students.
I love St. Paul because of its family atmosphere and its emphasis on respect for others. Both of my sons are St. Paul alumni, and I am grateful for the extra care given to their education, their safety, and their overall formation as people as they matured from year to year.

From the principal

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. My Master’s Degree is in School Administration.
I taught Special Education classes in Spartanburg’s District 6, then moved to Miami, Fla., where I taught for 18 years and was a principal for five years. For four years I acted as an Educational Consultant to hospitals that served children with psychiatric/psychological illnesses.
I am very happy to be back in Spartanburg. I graduated form Spartanburg High School. Now I am back at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School where I was very active in the Parish CYO and my seven youngest brothers and sisters went to school.
